Chapters 8 & 9

Chapter 8:
So.. in chapter eight it was pretty crazy. First of Gatsby is telling Nick how him and Daisy were before war ended. He was telling him how they made love and how they promised to wait and marry eachother after war. Well that didnt happen. I thought it was cute how he said that she was the first girl he ever felt that close to. Well anyways, Gatsbys gardner interupts Nick and Gatsby and says he will be sraing the pool. Gatsby stops him and says no because he had never used the pool. Now he wants to go for a swim. Then nick leaves. I thought it was sad when nick was destracted at work and he refused to go on a date with Jordan Baker. Then the story gets changed back to Myrtle. This is were it all starts. Wilson hears about who hit her and he goes and gives Gatsby a visit. Well Gatsby ends up being shot by Wilson while he was lying in the pool and then Wilson turns the gun on himself and kills himself too. Then nick hurrys back to the west egg to find that Gatsby is dead. This was sad that he died. :/
Chapter 9:
In chapter nine it was about Gatsbys funeral. I think it was really nice for Nick to try to throw him a huge funeral.. but that didnt work out. I think it was mean when Tom and DAISY didnt show up! I mean hes dead , why couldnt they just show up. Very few people came to his funeral. Then Nick goes off and is moving back to Minnesota and decides to break away from Jordan Baker. Before he moves he runs into Tom and Tom tell him that Gatsby deserved to die and that he told Wilson about the car hitting Myrtel. I dont think that was very nice of tom and I do like how Nick says that Tom and Daisy are carless and uncaring people who ruin things and people. Im glad Nick s moving away from Daisy and Tom because I think they just created drama throughout this book.

Chapter 6 and 7 reaction

Chapter 6:
This chapter suprised me. After all the rumors going around about Gatsby we get to actually here about him from the interviewer. I found it suprising how Gatspy dropped out of college two weeks after he was there. Also that he didn't come from a wealthy family because he hasd to work as a janitor when he was paying his college thing. Also that Gatsby doesn't drink at his parties because he was close to a man named Dan Cody and he was a heavy drinker. But when he died he convinced Gatsby to never become a heavy drinker like he was. And about the party when Tom and Daisy were there, it was a little strange how Tom his keeping an eye on Daisy there because he doesn't like Gatsby.

Chapter 7:
This chapter was strange and sad. It was weird when Daisy had her baby brought out because I didn't know she had one. I like how Gatsby and Daisy can't hide their love from others and how she invites him to go to the city with her. It seems like Tom is getting worried and jealous about Gatsby and Daisy. So they all end up going to New York together. On the way back it was sad. Myrtle was hit by a car. Daisy and Gatsby were driving and they hit Myrtle. I thought this was really sad and how Gatsby said Daisy hit her but he will take the blame for her.

Chapters 3,4,5

Chapter 3
I thought chapter three was just talking about Gatsby and his parties. He just had paties everyweekend. It was happy to hear that Nick got invited to one of his parties. At the party Nick and Jordan were becoming closer. They were starting to talk and bond more. They were hanging out and talking nore and becoming closer. Also, Nick and Gatsby were talking more and i think that they will start to like eachother more as the book goes on. Also, Gatsby talks about his past.

Chapter 4
In this chapter Nick and Gatsby go out to lunch. It seems like they are getting closer. On their drive to New York Gatsby tell Nick about his past and what it was like. I think that Gatsby is opening up to him by telling him about his past. Also, Nick sees Jordan, He runs in to her and they talk about what Gatsby and her talked about. They talked about Gatsby likeing Daisy. When Gatsby was in war with tom he liked Daisy and he also bought his mansion on the west egg to be near Daisy. This chapter was interseting i thought.

Chapter 5
I liked this chapter. So... Jordan and Nick went on a date. Then Gatsby and Daisy meet up. They have tea together. They talk for a while. I like how he is meeting up with Daisy and how hes nt so nervous. I want to see what will happen in the next chapter.

Free write 1/18/11

I don't like to share my writing because I don't like to read aloud. I wouldn't mind if others read my writing aloud, its just I don't like to read it myself. I fear that in my writing I will make sense to myself but not others and that I will sound stupid. The best case scenario would be if people complemented what they did and didn't like about it so that I know next time what to fix. I don't know what the worst case scenario would be but I just don't like to read my writing aloud.

The cold makes me want to lay in front of the fireplace and sleep there. It also makes me want to drink hot cocoa and marshmellows! (: I don't like the cold although I like the snow but I am ready for the summer to come and school to be over with. When it is cold I like to stay home and snuggle with a blanket and relax. I wish we would of had a snow day. But when it is cold I don't like to eat a lot all I like to do is sleep.

I think tat on my next time I should try to show the reader the argument instead of telling them what my argument is. I need to mae sure it is all in third person next time. My strength is my thesis because I worked really hard on it and tried harder. My weaknesses were telling the reader not showing them the arguement.

Response to The Awakening

I thought this book was alright. I felt that in this book that Edna just wanted to be free. I think that Edna wants to be free and not like the other people in her culture. She wants to be her own person and have her own beliefs in life. She doesn't want to be a follower of the others in the culture. I think that in this book the men are like the rulers and say what the wives have to do. In the book Edna learns about freedom of expression and she wants that freedom to do what she wants and not what the culture does. She was wanting to be a free person and she did not want to follow the rules that the other women and people do in the culture. I thought Edna was different and I liked that because she was someone who wanted to be herself and to be free from what others in her culture were doing. I thought that this book was better than the ones we have read in the past and I liked this book better. The part I didn’t like is when she had the secret relationship with Robert. But overall I thought this book was pretty good.
